A Life Well Lived
In this post: a tribute to my mother, and new music, fall gigs, and a Route 66 recording trip ahead.
After a long journey, it is with great sadness that I share that my mother passed away on August 18th. She was 91 years old. I am very thankful and blessed to have had her for a mother. She was a beacon of light in this world, and she will be missed by so many. Below, I have included a poem that I wrote titled “A daughter well loved.” I hope you will take time to read and help celebrate a life well lived.
I want to thank all of the friends, family, and community that I am surrounded by. Your support has been there every step of the way. I’m deeply grateful!
Caring for someone that you love in the final stages of their life is a profound experience. It is as rewarding as it is exhausting, and it helps to define what is truly important and invites us to reflect on the meaning of life in ways that nothing else can.
My mom and dad allowed me to dream and did everything that a parent could do to support my journey. I am keenly aware of how truly blessed I have been.
From a Daughter Well Loved
This is what I know about my mother…
She loved me.
She loved my father.
She loved others.
She was full of grace.
She was kind in spirit.
She was stronger than anyone I’ve ever known.
She knew what it meant to give.
She was deeply aware of others’ needs.
She’s why I believe in angels.
She’s why I believe in God.
She taught me how to find hope.
Her smile brought joy and light to every room.
We never once had a cross word between us.
She did not preach, she listened.
She did not judge.
She taught me the difference between judgment and discernment.
She knew how to laugh, and how to cry.
She walked in love, until she had given it all away.
She was a wife, a mother, a teacher, and a friend.
She was a peace maker.

The Journey Continues
Live Performance
Throughout my life, music has always carried me through, and now is no different. These last few years, I have focused on living life one day at a time. Yes, I have continued to play gigs for the healing arts community, teaching, and playing a limited number of gigs on guitar, but recently, doors have begun to open, and my guitar is calling me back—the time feels right! I miss playing!
As I begin to collect my thoughts and move forward, the path before me is beginning to clear, and I have started booking new gigs for the fall season. It’s time to pick up my guitar and play, so I would like to invite you to visit the events page on my website for a list of all upcoming dates; please be sure to spread the word! I would love to see the many faces that I have not seen for a while, and I can’t wait to share new music with you this season.

Writing: Digging Through the Archive
With the passing of my father in late 2024, I began digging through the archives of my life: pictures of the family, high school, years of touring, press releases, and articles in newspapers and magazines. I’ve been digging through my catalog and listening to songs that I’ve written throughout my life. It’s been a fascinating and rewarding process, it’s been good for my soul!
I have discovered many songs that I wrote and recorded on my four-track cassette recorder, in my parents’ basement in the early 80s, when I was 22 years old. Dozens of songs were recorded while in Nashville, from the late 80s through early 90s. Songs written in hotel rooms, captured on my Sony Walkman, span throughout the 90s, and songs written and recorded on my first ADAT machines span the early 2000s. As I move through each song, I made a folder of the ones that were complete, the ones never recorded, the ones left behind.
Out of curiosity, the songs that were fully written and recorded, I ran through the AI program SUNO, to see what would unfold. I was fascinated! It took songs of mine that were recorded on acoustic guitar and placed them within the context of a band. I even sampled selected takes of my voice, so what I heard only amplified the heart of each song.
Throughout each song, the melody lines were more varied, like a vocal instructor, planting seeds and ideas for me to learn. The years I spent sifting through records, trying to find examples of vocalists that I could learn from. My favorite artists Bonnie Raitt, Ann Wilson, Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, and Janis Joplin, the list goes on and on. So often their songs were out of my range. I always struggled to sing. I worked hard at my vocals, just like stealing licks from all of my favorite guitar players; over time, I made them my own.
What a wonderful gift this has been! So many new ideas for me to begin to work with! Now, I have time to practice, do the hard work, and see what I’m made of! With years of playing comes experience, things that talent, training, and hard work are sifted through.
Finally, I had scanned through the obvious song titles that I remembered, and as I listened to my favorites, the ones that spoke to me the most, I realized that I had gathered more than enough material for a new record. Songs in their raw form do not come with an expiration date. Like the blues, each song is a ball of clay that can be shaped and re-shaped throughout your life and then handed down.
Each song is just an idea with a melody, sometimes lyrics, supported by a chord progression, to be played fast or slow with a steady driving beat or with the groove like what Led Zeppelin’s famous and infamous John Bonham would introduce.
So now it’s time to begin a new journey, new music! I have much work ahead! A tailored set of ideas for me to work with. Like a blacksmith, back to the anvil, I shall go.
I’m excited. I no longer have to wait. The time is now.
Recording New Music
Recording New Music
Over the coming months, I will develop each song that I have pulled from my archive. I’ll take it to the stage, and as I play, I’ll experience the joy as each song finds a life of its own. In early 2027, I plan to begin preproduction, and for the first time, have the luxury to record an album without a timeline determined by a tour schedule or the needs of promotion. This new music has been years in the making, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.
Until then, I will resume recording the soundscape I’ve composed for the handpan, a project that I’ve placed on hold. The timing couldn’t be better! I have many tracks that I’ve already recorded in my studio, but my dream of recording soundscapes in nature, shooting video, and exploring photography is just around the curve ahead.
Travel
After years of constant touring, I am planning a trip out west, where I can finally stop and see the beauty I’ve driven past for decades. I plan to visit friends and capture the beauty that I find. I believe that the places I’m meant to visit will provide the perfect opportunity to capture and create soundscapes in nature, among the trees, sunrises and sunsets. I can’t wait to play handpan, acoustic guitar, and Native American flute as I look out over the pristine mountains and the desert sand. And I’m finally going to drive Route 66! I’ve dreamed of doing this for decades. I have the month of November blocked out. A new kind of road trip, a journey into the heart, soul, and discovery of what the world, at a different pace, has to teach me.
Wrap-Up
So, in the meantime, I will celebrate my mother’s life well lived, reflect on her journey, as well as my father’s journey and all that they gave me. I’ll step back on stage with my acoustic guitar—I love playing acoustic guitar like an electric! It makes me work, dig deep, be vulnerable, and see what I’m made of. I plan to tell stories, share new music, and revisit Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, and my favorite originals.
These next few months will give me time to prepare for my journey and travels, and then carve out what holidays look like as an only child, now that my parents have passed. I’m grateful for my friends and those that have become new family!
I look forward to seeing you soon! I have three gigs in the Cincinnati area this coming weekend! I hope to see some of you there in person, and if you live far away, I hope you’ll be there in spirit!
Bye for now!
