Kelly Richey News & Updates 7.27: Behind the Scenes

LAST WEEK

Despite the heat wave consuming most of the Cincinnati area over the last week, the Kelly Richey Band was on stage at Belterra Raceway on Saturday, July 23 for the Blues, Brews & BBQ festival. It was 97 degrees in the shade, and 110 on stage! We played hard and the audience was amazing. It was great to play in my home area, and I saw many KRB fans I haven’t seen in a number of years. COMING UP

I’ve got another live solo performance on Saturday, August 6 at The Waterfront Grille & Gathering in Winchester, KY, starting at 9 p.m. Just outside of Lexington is the small town of Winchester, KY.  One of my previous guitar students, who is now a judge by day and a restaurant/music venue owner by night, called me recently and asked if I would play a solo show here, close to my original hometown of Lexington. I can’t wait to see my Lexington-area fans! (Save the Date on Facebook)

The timing couldn’t be better because, between my summer shows, I’ve been putting in time making enhancements to my solo rig. It’s turning into quite a spaceship! I’ve got new software and a new MIDI pedal, for starters. I’m having a blast continuing to grow the rig and explore ways to manipulate my sound and put on the best solo performance I possibly can. Working on the rig also has inspired me to create some new music.

Behind the scenes look at my home studio

That means I’m taking advantage of the opportunity in my schedule this August to get back in the studio to write & record new material. That includes new music, of course, as well as new guitar lesson videos for my guitar instruction website, GuitarLessonsbyKellyRichey.com. I have three new lesson series planned & slated to be recorded in the late summer/early fall, and I’m really excited to share that with my students and Backstage Pass subscribers. I’ve already collected a library of 250+ videos and I’m adding new material to my online classroom all the time!

AROUND THE WORLD: Visitor from Turkey!

I recently had the rare treat of hosting one of my international guitar students for a visit. Ozkan, who hails from Turkey, has been taking lessons from me via Skype for about a year and a half. He was in New York state celebrating his 40th birthday and decided to rent a car and drive all the way to Cincinnati to spend a weekend with me. As if this wasn’t special enough, Ozkan generously gifted me with a Turkish coffee maker (and Turkish coffee to put in it, of course). All I can say is: Holy crap, this coffee is amazing! It’s rocket fuel — so I’m grateful for the tiny cups. ;>)

IMG_2867 copyIMG_2805 copyturkishcoffee

Ozkan had a blast during his stay here (though he couldn’t have picked a hotter July weekend), which included the chance to see me and the band playing at Belterra.

Did you know that my guitar lessons are global? Aspiring guitarists from anywhere in the world can take one-on-one lessons with me over Skype and subscribe to my online classroom. Learn More

That’s all for now! Stay cool, everyone!

There’s only one person we know of that’s been described as “Stevie Ray Vaughan trapped in a woman’s body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out,” and that’s the one-and-only Kelly Richey.

With over 30 years of experience as a professional independent touring musician, Richey fronts her power trio The Kelly Richey Band, has an unparalleled zeal for guitar, has taught more than 1000 guitar students, owns her record label company, is a certified life coach, is a record producer, and more. Simply said, she’s an all around bona fide bad-ass.

You have to see it to believe it, so head on over to her website to watch videos and more  at www.kellyrichey.com.

WiMN: Wow, first of all congrats on all of your achievements, album releases, and jam-packed tour schedule. Tell us about your two most recent albums The Kelly Richey Band Live at the Blue Wisp, and  Sweet Spirit. What makes them different from the 13 previous albums you’ve released?

KR: Sweet Spirit was recorded in Lexington, Ky., at Shangri-la Productions, produced and engineered by Duane Lundy. The Shangri-La Studio is a large warehouse with an amazingly cool vibe. We set up so we could record live and capture the raw energy I’m known for when I play live on stage.

This is the first studio release that I’ve recorded that truly captured the energy of a live performance giving us the ability to place our focus on arrangement and capturing the best live take. I was joined by funk master Freekbass and Robby Cosenza on drums. Originally I had written and recorded all the material in my home studio playing to just a drum loop. I was heavily influenced by Jack White and the Black Keys at this time, so I wanted to write to just a drum groove so I’d be forced to create guitar riffs and grooves that could stand alone. Once in the studio with Freekbass and Robby, Duane directed traffic and the result was a CD packed full of raw energy and the strongest collection of songs I’ve written to date.

The Kelly Richey Band Live at the Blue Wisp was recorded in Cincinnati, which is home-base for the Kelly Richey Band. With the release of Sweet Spirit, Freekbass and I joined forces live and began to tour in early 2013. This live CD is a reflection of the chemistry created during a years’ worth of non-stop touring during which the songs from Sweet Spirit were allowed to be opened up and develop a new life of their own– which only comes from playing live night after night.

Big Bamn joined forces with the band after touring with Bootsy Collins– consequently, Freekbass (a Bootsy Collins protégé) and Bamn are a force to be reckoned with musically. I’ve always wanted to have my energy matched on stage, and the two of them never fail!  This recording really captures the heart and soul of the band and is an accurate reflection of who we are: a powerful blues/rock power trio with a heavy funk and jam band influence.

WiMN: What was it that made you decide, “OK, I want to start my own record label”?

KR: Starting my own record label happened out of necessity. I was starting to tour and make records and needed distribution. At the time, the independent music concept was the new landscape. This, coupled by the fact that I’d been in a band that was signed to a major label and hence witnessed the cold, harsh reality that there is no guarantee in the music industry, made me choose the path that I felt best insured taking care of my own interests.

WiMN: What advice would you give to someone seeking to start their own record label?

KR: It really comes down to having enough motivation, cash flow, and business sense to record, release and promote your own product vs. having someone do that for you. There are absolute advantages to both! If someone else is going to sign you, you need to make sure they have the funding and the support you need, and that you do not become lost amongst their other artists. If you’re going to do it on your own, it’s a full-time job and you must function like a business!

WiMN: You’ve pretty much touched every aspect of being a guitarist: you’ve toured, taught, composed, produced, recorded and more. Of all the different aspects of guitar playing, which is your favorite and why?

KR: I’m torn between being on stage performing versus teaching people to play the guitar. I enjoy both a great deal and if forced to choose between the two, I would not be able to give up either!

WiMN: Tell us one of your biggest guitar student success stories.

KR: I’ve had many success stories along the way but this is the most recent. In early Nov. 2013, Diana Rein Polacek joined the world’s largest online guitar instruction school www.TrueFire.com and signed up to take guitar lessons from me.

I’ve been an instructor at Truefire for about a year now, and I very much like the instructional and teaching platform it presents for both students and teachers alike. After about six months of guitar instruction from me, Diana found a site called Giveit100, a place for people who have a passion that they want to excel at via sharing a short video of their progress every day for 100 days. Diana decided to take up the challenge and apply it to her guitar playing.

Diana picked one of my songs, “Mean Old World” to learn as the focus of her daily videos.  After just three weeks, here’s the process Diana has made. Quite frankly, I’m blown away by her committment  and dedication! I hope everyone takes a minute to watch some of these videos, as they are truly inspiring and clearly show the impact of what a dedicated practice routine can do to elevate one’s playing ability. No matter what you want to accomplish, it’s always done one step at a time, and here is an excellent example of someone doing just that with passion and determination. Kudos to Diane for all of her hard work!

WiMN: You released an instructional DVD titled Blues: On Steroids. What can students expect to learn?

KR: Note: These video instruction packages allow students immediate access to over 120 of my instructional videos, support tab and instruction manuals, PDF files, and MP3 Rhythm Tracks, and are only available online.  The Blues On Steroids videos can be used as a stand-alone instructional series, or they can be used as support materials when taking one-on-one guitar lessons with me via real-time video Skype. The video guitar instruction packages allow students at any level to move at their own pace while taking lessons from me from anywhere in the world. Individual lessons as well as lesson packages are available.

Here is a link to a full description of each product:  https://kellyrichey.com/blues-steroids/.

WiMN: You’re also a life coach. Tell us a bit about that.

KR: People often come to me because they see that I followed my dreams and carved out a career path that supported my greatest passions. After teaching guitar one-on-one and group workshops for over 25 years, in 2008, I began a journey to pursue life coaching certifications to expand my offerings. My coaching consultancy is designed to educate, motivate, and inspire people to identify their life’s true purpose and consequently, achieve the life of their dreams.

In addition to life coaching, I also offer music business consulting— expertise that I’ve honed from over three decades of being a performing independent musician. Here are a list of my certifications outside of my music business experience: Certified True Purpose Coach®, Certified Dream Coach®, Certified Dream Coach Group Leader®, and I’m also trained in voice dialog.

WiMN: Your playing style has been compared to Stevie Ray Vaughan’s (NICE!). What does it feel like to be compared to such a huge maestro?

KR: It’s a compliment I do not take lightly! As an artist I do not feel like I could ever fill his shoes, so compliments like this inspire me to push forward as a guitarist, performer, and as an artist—  in ways that hopefully honor the legacy he left behind.

WiMN: What would you tell a young girl aspiring to succeed as a blues guitarist?

KR: You can do it!  Find a great teacher, practice every chance you get, work hard and seek mentors along the way! Most, believe in yourself 100%…!

WiMN: Share any exciting news lined up for the future.

KR: I’m working hard to build my online guitar instruction platform so that I can connect with as many guitar students as possible! I tour year-round but the vast majority of my dates are on weekends, so this allows me the freedom to teach and build a strong connection with my students during my off time.

I’m excited to announce that I recently shot my first guitar instruction series for TrueFire Online, the leading online guitar instruction classroom! This video series will be released in late fall/early winter and will further build my presence on Truefire’s powerful teaching platform (http://truefire.com/classrooms/sherpa_class.html?room=kellyrichey).

I had such a great time last spring opening solo for Robben Ford (who also just happens to be one of my guitar idols), that I have decided to do more solo shows and recording.  I have added a looper to my pedal board that allows me to create a backing track when I play. I can use that playing solo or with the band. My next solo show will be opening for the British band Wishbone Ash, in Mishawaka, Ind., (near South Bend) on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Wishbone Ash pioneered the harmony twin lead guitars format, so I am psyched to see that live!  I’m currently writing songs for my solo show, which I plan to record into a 4-song EP in Dec. I will continue to play with other musicians and to record with them, but for the moment I am enjoying going out on a limb and expanding my live performance and fostering my creative journey.

I’m booking festivals for 2015!  After much touring success and many festivals in new markets in the USA, Canada (and this October I will add Australia to the list), I’m actively booking dates for next year. I plan to perform with my band, perfrom solo, and also teach guitar instruction workshops. I look forward to what the new year brings!

The Kelly Richey Band LIVE at the Redmoor – Cincinnati, OH

the kelly richey band live at the redmoor june 24 2016

I always love it when I get the chance to play a venue in Cincinnati, where I have lived for the last twenty years, making it something of a second hometown. The Redmoor is a unique theatre-style venue in the neighborhood of Mt. Lookout with an intimate, walk-right-up-to-the-stage environment , making it a joy to play. From the stage I could see lots of familiar faces and friends in the audience. It was also great to play alongside Rikk Manning (bass) and Tobe Donahue (drums) – they are my dream rhythm section.

Kelly Richey solo at Third Street Cigar – Waterville, OH

John Henry is the owner of the Third Street Cigar Bar in Waterville, outside Toledo, and he has a real knack for hand-selecting some of the best bands to play his venue. He is a real music lover and a supporter of the blues, and it was an honor to work together with him to make this solo show happen. There was a great mix of people in the crowd – and it was a crowd who was really there to hear the music, not just have me on in the background while they ate and drank. You never know who you’re gonna get with some of these smaller bar gigs…

Want to book Kelly Richey solo or with the band? Get in touch.

YOU WANNA ROCK

You wanna rock – I wanna roll…
You say you wanna rock – I wanna roll…
Before you rock me all night long –
You better have some soul.

You wanna love – all night long…
You say you wanna love – all night long…
Before you give your love to me –
Make sure your love’s strong.

You wanna fly – fly so high…
You say you wanna fly – fly so high…
Before you take me for a ride –
You gotta make me feel inside.

Shakedown Soul CD Release:

“Shakedown Soul” is Kelly Richey’s 16th album in her 35 year career as a Master guitar slinger. The album is an unprecedented mix of urban/indie in-your-face, raucous rock n roll, blues, funky bass grooves, and synthesized electronica— complete with DJ scratching and drum loops; with added elements like horns, strings, and synth sequencing that combine to make “Shakedown Soul” a one-of-kind, phenomenal sonic wall of sound that will have you foot stomping and head banging one minute and completely mesmerized the next. Richey’s husky alto vocals and raw, ultra personal songwriting will leave you introspective, speechless and wanting more. Her guitar work on this album is truly exceptional— the songs retain her signature Strat sound, but Richey steps out of the box to incorporate new melodies and synthesized guitar sounds that sit perfectly within the concept of the album.

“Shakedown Soul” is a studio album superbly mixed and mastered by producer, Tobe “Tobotius” Donohue and features a group of extraordinary musicians and back scene talent all collaborating to make the finest piece of work that Richey has done to date. All the songs are original, and feature Richey on guitar and vocals, Rikk Manning on bass, and Tobe Donohoe on drums, scratching and synths. In “You Wanna Rock” and “Love” you can hear some of Richey’s early influences from bands like Led Zeppelin, Free, and Bad Company. The song “Lies” is influenced by Sheryl Crow’s self titled album, and the tracks “Afraid To Die” and “The Artist In Me” are haunting tunes that reflect the influence producer Daniel Lanois and artist Emmy Lou Harris’s “Wrecking Ball” album had on her. Add to that list “Just like A River” and you have three songs taken from Richey’s poetry and reflect her influence for artist Patti Smith— while musically being influenced from bands like the Smithereens and early Chrissy Hinds of the Pretenders. “I Want To Run” draws on straight forward power chords and powerful riffs that pull from influences like Lenny Kravitz. “Only Going Up” and “I Want To Run” is where you’ll find a classic example of where rock and roll and electronica meet face to face! Richey approached the writing and recording from a strip-downed perspective, writing the majority of this material to both rock and hip-hop drum loops. Heavily influenced by the work of early Black Keys, Jack White and Led Zeppelin, Richey handed her songs to Tobe to “do his thing”. Richey said to Tobe and Rikk, “You make me cool and you make me relevant and I’ll make you rock!” Indeed she did! Tobe brings his unique bend of heavy funk, electronica, D.J. production to each song, and Rikk manning completes the groove with his spectacular bass playing.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Richey has crafted her finest album to date, featuring ten stellar songs that are guaranteed to blow you away whether you are an old fan or new. Be prepared for an astonishing, intense sonic experience that will leave you with your jaw on the ground!

Kelly Richey Bio: Kelly Richey is one of the hardest working independent musicians out there; to date logging an extraordinary 1,000,000 miles touring, and at one point in her 30-year professional career, gigging a grueling 275 days out of the year. Richey has toured in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Born in Lexington, Kentucky but now based in Cincinnati, Richey started playing guitar at the age of 15. Today, a staggering 4,000 gigs later, she more than earns the title of master guitarist and singer/songwriter. She has been described as “Stevie Ray Vaughan trapped in a woman’s body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out”. She has been listed as among the top 100 gifted guitarists by the Truefire Community in 2011, and frequently draws comparisons to blues guitar icons Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Richey has shared the stage with such legends as Lonnie Mack and Albert King, and has opened for Joe Cocker, Lita Ford, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Walter Trout, Little Feat, Foghat, REO Speedwagon, George Thorogood, Average White Band, Robben Ford, Warren Zevon, and James Brown.  Richey has fronted her blues/rock power trio, The Kelly Richey Band since the early 1990’s, and she also performs an intense, dazzling solo show incorporating electric and acoustic guitar, looping, beats, electronic sound synthesis, and some of her more personal acoustic material.

Richey has been teaching guitar almost as long as she’s been playing; with over three decades of teaching experience under her belt, she is a deeply dedicated and inspirational guitar instructor who has taught well over 1,000 students to date.  Richey teaches both privately and through the online teaching course with TrueFire.  Richey has put out a number of instructional videos and teaches several guitar workshops around the country.  Richey has a rock solid understanding of blues guitar techniques, which she passionately passes on to her students. She’s a warm, outgoing and dynamic guitar instructor with a unique teaching style who relates exceptionally well to her students no matter what their skill level or background may be. Her goal is to provide expert instruction tailored to meet each student’s individual needs, so that he or she can excel to full potential.

Kelly Richey_banner_14_headshotDuring a holiday break in late 2008, Richey just happened to watch the movie “You Can Heal Your Life”, which is a film about the life and teachings of healer Louise Hay; and thus began Richey’s journey— first, taking charge and changing her own life in many positive ways, and secondly, deciding to take the steep, three-year learning curve to become a Life Coach herself. Richey’s mission is to create a sacred space for people to heal themselves and to provide inspiration to those who seek a deeper meaning in their lives. As a Certified Dream Coach, Dream Coach Group Leader and True Purpose Coach™, Richey takes clients through a process to help identify and remove obstacles that hold people back from doing what they truly love. In her own words Richey says, “This process will enable you to identify what you were most designed to do, and who you were most designed to be in this life”.  Richey teaches her clients a process to develop effective tools that deal directly with one’s fears and break free from the self-limiting constraints of one’s past.

The Kelly Richey Band ROCKS HARD!!!

The Kelly Richey Band ROCKS HARD!!! – “Summer of LOVE” Tour 2015

Kelly Richey and her band returned to the stage kicking off their 2015 Summer Festival Season!  Never before has such power come from the stage with new material, a new album (almost completed) and, most importantly, raw energy that FAR surpasses any previous KRB shows.  Bassist Rikk Manning and Kelly Richey go toe-to-toe with riffs that send sonic waves through the stratosphere, and Tobe Donohue not only kills it on drums, but he scratches and adds his masterful electronic skills as one of today’s leading DJ’s with fresh, new sounds that take KRB to a new level of performance that blends jambase, rock-n-roll, blues, and a heavy dose of funk and hip-hop.  The band sounds GREAT, the audience is going wild, and we are killing it at every show we play.  Look out everyone, the KRB is headed your way and we intend to blow the roof off at every show we play!

The Kelly Richey Band Opens for Heart on June 28th in Pennsylvania!

The Kelly Richey Band will open for the chart storming 1970’s rock band Heart on June 28th at the Spyglass Ridge Winery in Sunbury, PA. This show sold out in 24 hours!  Heart is one of my all time favorite bands, and has been one of the biggest influences in my musical career.  With Top 10 albums on the Billboard Album Chart in the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, and 2010’s, Heart is among the most commercially enduring hard rock bands in history. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.  I’m extremely excited to open for them later this month.  What an honor!

More Than A Feeling

More Than A Feeling

YES, it’s More Than A Feeling– it’s a reality!  I’m excited to announce that The Kelly Richey Band will be opening for Boston (the band) at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, OH on Thursday, July 2nd, 2015.  Get your tickets now because this show will sell out!

Boston-The Band

Back by popular demand, Tom Scholz’ band BOSTON will embark on another highly anticipated tour. Always a huge crowd pleaser with their high-energy stage show, out-of-this-world sound, and remarkable musicianship and singing, BOSTON prides itself on performing a totally live show without the use of prerecorded music or technical enhancements, delivering the extraordinary sound that is faithful to their studio recordings.

BOSTON became an iconic classic rock fixture when they joined the music scene with their self-titled album in 1976. With over 17 million copies sold, Boston generated hits such as “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Smokin’,” rock staples that are still in heavy rotation today. Their second album, Don’t Look Back was another chart-topper that confirmed their place in rock history, followed by Third Stage, which hit #1 on the charts, with the top single of 1986, “Amanda.” With over 31 million albums sold to date, BOSTON has stood the test of time, as evidenced by live audiences that span generations.

Fans can expect to hear all the classic songs they have grown to love, and will be treated to some new additions to their set list based on recent requests. Enjoy wild Hammond organ work, soaring harmony guitars, and exceptional vocal arrangements, as well as BOSTON’s unique visual stage presentation and plenty of extra-terrestrial sounds heard nowhere else on Earth.

Kelly Richey Poster_11x17.indd

Kelley Richey is a no-holds-barred, serious axe grinder. Setting up her band as a power trio (drums, bass, and guitar) showcases her muscular, incendiary leads and masterful guitar chops. Playing live is where Richey shines, literally bringing down the house at every show she plays. Cognizant of the emotionality in her live shows, Richey steamrolls; she hits the audience hard and fast, grabs on and doesn’t let go.

Making music that’s hard rocking, blues-based, and guitar driven, she blasts her audiences with jaw-dropping lightening fast riffs and a muscularity of playing that even many of the best male guitarists don’t possess. Her soulful voice– a big, powerful alto, provides the arc that completes the circle for a total sonic experience that is not to be forgotten.

Announcing the New Kelly Richey Band Lineup

Announcing the New Kelly Richey Band Lineup:

I’m excited and truly honored to announce my new lineup for 2015!  Tobe “TOBOTIUS” Donohue will be joining me on drums and Rikk Manning will be joining me on bass guitar!  WOW!  I’ve had more fun at rehearsals the past few weeks than I’ve had in years.  I honestly can’t wait to hit the stage with these guys!  We’ll be dishing out mostly new material (with some older KRB favorites here and there) with a killer new sound that is totally ROCKIN’.…!  I’m so excited to share the stage with these guys— we are definitely gonna have a blast, and we can’t wait to rock the house for our fans!

TOBE “TOBOTIUS” DONOHUE BIO:

Tobe Donohue is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has been producing music and performing with some of the biggest names in hip-hop and modern music for years. Head engineer and producer for the last fifteen years for Bootzilla Productions, Tobe’s worked with Bootsy Collins in the studio and shot commercials with athletes including LeBron James and big name actors like Samuel L. Jackson.

Tobe  played in the alt rock group, “LAZY ROCKET” for 10 years as a drummer, DJ and programmer (sequencer sampling, etc.), and he’s played with Bernie Worrell Orchestra, Buckethead, Color Me Badd, DJ Hit-Tek, Creeper Lagoon, Glue, Headtronicks,  MC Paul Barman. Currently, in addition to the Kelly Richey Band, Tobe is performing with Iswhat?!, Algorhythmix, Weathered Feather, Piahkhan, and Fam Gemz.

Tobe also runs his own record label and studio, Manimal Records, established in 2001. As a side project Tobotius and Freekbass also performed together as Freekbot. In addition, Tobe heads Animal Crackers, the US champions in 2007 of the coveted Technics DMC Award.

In 2014, Tobe produced “The Kelly Richey Band LIVE at The Blue Wisp”, and since February 2015 he has filled the role of my production engineer for building my new solo show.  Tobe has been producing tracks for my upcoming CD, and will take the stage as my drummer— in the style of The Black Keys, R.L. Burnside, and The White Stripes, for this years’ festival shows.

RIKK’s MANNING BIO:

From Dayton, Ohio, Rikk is a rock solid, high energy bassist demonstrating blistering technical skill, solid groove, pure energy, and a few unique tricks up his sleeve. He displays a wide range of ability working in genres from progressive rock/jazz fusion (performing with the Michael Harris Tranz-Fusion (http://www.michaelharrisguitar.com) to hard funk (as a writing and performing member of Funtime Freddy (https://www.facebook.com/funtimefreddy)— all the way to classic R&B and jazz standards (performing with vocal/bass duo The Mannings (https://www.facebook.com/themanningsmusic). That just names a few of the musicians that Rikk has worked with during his extensive career.

Rikk is not only an accomplished performer, he is a composer and producer in his own right. Rikk’s debut solo single “Right out of the Gate” (https://itunes.apple.com/album/id976236483) featuring performances from powerhouses Chris Carver on keys, John Arthur Gentry Jr. on guitar, Jason Palmer on drums, and special guest Philip Lassiter on trumpet was released in March 2015. The single is true to the style of Rikk’s influences, such as: Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, James Jamerson, Geddy Lee, Adam Nitti, Jaco Pastorius, Jermaine Morgan, Marcus Miller, Rocco Prestia, Roger Waters, and Victor Wooten.

Rikk recently joined forces with the Kelly Richey Band and has this to say: ”The opportunity to collaborate and perform with Kelly Richey could not have come at a more perfect time in my career.  Raw power and technical prowess rooted in blues is exactly where I want to stretch my musical legs right now. Being able to get out on the festival circuit this summer to share this passion with Kelly and her dedicated fan base is a true pleasure!”

Rikk is a family man with a wife and two young daughters. He and his wife are very involved and connected to the community in their small town outside of Dayton, Ohio. His family sponsors several events throughout the year for the Carrie Vanderbeek Memorial (www.facebook.com/CarrieVanderbeekMemorial), which is a yearly scholarship awarded through Muse Machine of Dayton, Ohio to help one graduate of Valley View High School interested in the study of the arts pay for college tuition.
